VdTÜV (the Association of TÜVs) represents the political and work-related interests of its members in the areas of politics, administration, industry and commerce, and also as regards the general public; it has offices in the decisionmaking centres of Berlin and Brussels. The TÜV companies, TÜV SÜD, TÜV NORD, TÜV Rheinland, TÜV Thüringen and TÜV Saarland, with their annual turnover of around 5 billion euros and workforce of over 45,000, represent the largest proportion of the world's "Testing, Inspection and Certification Industry". The work of VdTÜV covers all services offered by the sector.
Each year, TÜV companies in Germany perform 10 million periodic vehicle inspections and around 1.4 million driving tests. A further 15 million vehicle inspections are carried out throughout the world.
Within the mobility sector, VdTÜV is actively committed to road safety. For many decades now, VdTÜV and its members have been playing an active part in the development of traffic management and measures aimed at improving road safety in Germany and the whole of Europe.
As early as 2004, VdTÜV was one of the first signatories of the European Road Safety Charter in Dublin.
VdTÜV regularly organises scientific conferences. These include the "Fit to Drive Congress" focusing on the safety of individual mobility, the "Technical Experts' Conference" on ensuring safe and sustainable mobility and the "Forum mobility for people with disability".
