Trafi improves the safety of the traffic system and promotes environmentally friendly traffic. Trafi takes part in the preparation of national as well as international standards, issues licences and regulations, collects taxes and fees, maintains registers, compiles statistics and provides information services. Trafi works in close cooperation with both domestic and international partners.
Trafi was formed by merging the Finnish Vehicle Administration AKE, the Finnish Civil Aviation Authority, the Finnish Rail Agency and the safety functions of the Finnish Maritime Administration. Trafi is subordinate to the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications. Trafi’s head office is located in Helsinki. The agency has 9 other offices elsewhere in Finland.
