VOICE Public-Private Partnership Award highlights local initiative

The first VOICE Public-Private Partnership Award was awarded on 14 September 2006 to Rob Tinlin, Chief Executive of Southend-on-Sea, a town situated on the southern coast of England. Mr Tinlin was chosen for his ability to attract substantial financial support from local business for investment in various infrastructure measures, including several designed for vulnerable road users.

Since funding road safety work is often a major problem for local road safety policy makers, this award highlights what local authorities can actually do to secure road safety funding. Southend-on-Sea therefore represents a successful public-private partnership and could be an example to other towns seeking solutions to their road safety problems.

The Awards take the form of an original cartoons by George Milonas.
